What Marine Animal Holds Its Breath the Longest

Some animals, like fish, crabs and lobsters, can breathe underwater. Other animals, like whales, seals, sea otters, and turtles, live all or part of their lives in the water, but cant breathe underwater.  Despite their inability to breathe underwater, these animals have an amazing ability to hold their breath for a long time. But what animal can hold its breath the longest? The Animal That Holds Its Breath the Longest So far, that record goes to the Cuviers beaked whale, a medium-sized whale that is known for its long, deep dives. Theres a lot that is unknown about the oceans, but with developments in research technologies, were learning more each day. One of the most useful developments in recent years has been the use of tags to track an animals movements. It was through using a satellite tag that researchers Schorr, et.al. (2014) discovered this beaked whales amazing breath-holding capabilities. Of the coast of California, eight Cuviers beaked whales were tagged. During the study, the longest dive recorded was 138 minutes. This was also the deepest dive recorded—the whale dove more than 9,800 feet. Until this study, southern elephant seals were thought to be the big winners in the breath-holding Olympics. Female elephant seals have been recorded holding their breath for 2 hours and diving more than 4,000 feet. How Do They Hold Their Breath so Long? Animals that hold their breath underwater still need to use oxygen during that time.  So how do they do it?  The key seems to be myoglobin, an oxygen-binding protein, in the muscles of these marine mammals. Because these myoglobins have a positive charge, the mammals can have more of them in their muscles, as the proteins repel each other, rather than sticking together and clogging up the muscles. Deep-diving mammals have ten times more myoglobin in their muscles than we do. This allows them to have more oxygen to use when theyre underwater. Whats Next?   One of the exciting things about ocean research is that we never know what happens next. Perhaps more tagging studies will demonstrate that Cuviers beaked whales can hold their breath even longer—or that there is a mammal species out there that can surpass even them. Treatment Of Pain Management For Post Operative Patients

In today’s health care a major problem is the management of pain after surgical procedures. The purpose of this paper is to improve the quality of pain management for post-operative patients by integrating more non-pharmacological and holistic techniques. Gà ©linas, Arbour, Michaud, Robar, and Cà ´tà © described non-pharmacological interventions as interventions that do not involve the use of medications to relieve pain (2013). Pain is a subjective experience. Gà ©linas et al. found that pain often goes undertreated in patients which can contribute to physical, emotional, and psychological distress (2013). This distress increases anxiety and can interfere with the healing process. Pain is often worsened by anxiety and fear (Comeaux Steele-Moses, 2013). Therefore, reducing anxiety can also aid in reducing pain. The most often used intervention for pain management is the use of drug therapy. However, drug therapy alone is not effective. For example, on the South 3 West uni t of Holyoke Medical Center patients still report pain levels of 9 and 10 on the numerical pain scale even after receiving pain medication. There are also risks to relying solely on drug therapy. Prolonged use of analgesics can cause harmful side effects to the patient, such as decreased respiratory rate. There are lots of internship problem come to the public’s attention. Some of the students required intern at certain company or enterprise just to graduate, and get a better profile in their resume. Some companies take an advantage of the rule that during the internship, the companies do not need to pay their student working hours. Therefore, the companies make the best use out of the intern student, and squeeze every last drop of the energy from the student. Intern students are forced to work excessive hours without adequate rest. At the same time, the student cannot speak up to the public because they are threatened if they cannot get the work done, the supervisor would not give out the credit that they needed to graduate. In last year, a 22 year-old Alberta practicum student crashed while driving home after being made to work long hours. He is threatened by his supervisor if he did not finished the task which he was assigned, he would get the credit that he supposed to get and graduate. The Canadian Intern Association said it hears many stories from young people who feel overworked. However, high youth unemployment rates are making this condition very difficult to resolve, which may result in young interns working for long hours and not feeling that they can speak up to this situation. However, most of the time people forgot that the way an individual interprets the text depends on his or her cultural, social, economic and educational background. Therefore, an interpreter needs to take both these two points into consideration before he or she embarks on the process of interpretation. Moreover, it is to be noted that the Church since the traditional time has understood the nature of the Scripture to the same as that of Christ. Therefore, as per the authors the starting point of our interpretation of the Scriptures requires an understanding of the then and there and here and now (Fee and Stuart 2003). According to the authors Fee and Stuart (2003), an understanding of the then and there and the here and now is very important for an understanding of the Scriptures because during the interpretation of the Bible, the interpreter often faces a tension between the historical and the eternal relevance of the scripture. According to the authors, God chose to speak in the context of real human history, we may take courage that these same words will speak again and again in our own real history, as they have throughout the history of the church(Fee and Stuart 2003). Moreover, in order to interpret the then and there in a more effective manner the interpreter also needs understand the general rules applicable to the Biblical words. There were times when I used to have a tough time trying to interpret the Scripture for myself and had to take the help of my parents and elders to interpret the Scripture. I would say that the first challenge which I faced during the process of my interpretation of the Scripture was the use of too many obsolete as well as ecclesiastical words with which I was not very familiar. I would like to say here that I had to take the help of not only my parents and elders but also the help of the Father of our local Church to understand the exact meaning of those words and the context in which they were used. Another major challenge faced by me during the process of interpretation of the Scripture was my inability to understand the setting as well as the latent meaning of some of the parables. Once again the support provided by my elders, parents and the Father of our local Church were very helpful. Another ma jor challenge which I faced was the tension between the then and there and the here and now of the Scripture. I would like to add here that being a citizen of the 21st century I was obviously trying to interpret the Scripture in the context of the 21st century Literature however, later i came to know from my teachers and elders the then and there aspect also matter a lot. The Father of our local Church cleared up the air for me and helped me to understand there are two aspects of the Bible the eternal relevance and the human words in history and that both the aspects need to taken into consideration for an effective interpretation of the Scripture. 6.According to the authors, the antidote to bad interpretation is not no interpretation but good interpretation (Fee and Stuart 2003). An interpreter should take into consideration both the then and there and here and now aspects of the text(Fee and Stuart 2003). According to the authors, this particular problem arises because of the dual nature of the Biblical text- as an eternal relevance and human words in history (Fee and Stuart 2003).
